Ray's Biography
Ray is a very beautiful bird that came to Animal Wonders from a lady who loved Ray but realized she couldn't give him what he needed. Lorikeets in general are not a beginner bird, they require a special diet and have a very high level of energy. Ray was not eating the things he needed to eat to keep him healthy. He also went through a few traumatic experiences and couldn't figure out how to get past them. He became nervous around humans and his fear turned into aggression. He also began to pluck his feathers. So now, Ray is re-learning how to interact with humans in a positive way. He's catching on quickly and soon he will be happy and healthy once again. He loves his nectar! He will stretch out as far as he can reach and stick his tongue out as faaaar as it will go, to get one little dip in the sweet nectar. We have found the key to unlocking beautiful Ray's heart.
Update: Ray has a new roommate! Lovie, the lovebird, has moved in and they have become good friends.
Another update: Ray has been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has been enduring small seizures which cause him to become off-balance or tense up. He will remain at Animal Wonders where he will be given everything he needs. Ray will most likely never get to go out to presentations but he will be able to be an Animal Ambassador through pictures and the website.
