Animal Wonders is seeking a Lead Wildlife Educator to join our organization’s team! This position reports directly to the Executive Director and includes hosting educational presentations to a variety of groups, care responsibilities for the animal ambassadors, training using positive reinforcement and choice based training methods, and light management duties for interns and volunteers. We are looking for an individual that will fit well with our current team of enthusiastic individuals. We’re a small non-profit organization, located in rural Montana. The ideal candidate for this position will have: - 4+ years of experience with presenting to the public - 3+ years of experience working with animals - Basic knowledge of positive reinforcement training techniques - Intermediate knowledge of animal behavior - An exceptional dedication to quality work and attention to detail - Excellent communication skills to effectively share important information - Self motivation skills and can work independently or as part of a team - The desire to improve wherever possible and can accept instruction and correction readily for the goal of providing the animals with high quality care. - The ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi tasking environment with many opportunities to gain new skills
The duties of the Lead Wildlife Educator include: - Providing educational presentations with animal ambassadors to audiences ages 3 to 103 - Knowing and implementing lesson plans for school and themed programs - Driving the company vehicle to off-site programs - Preparing diets and feeding the animal residents - Creating enrichment for the animal residents - Training animal ambassadors for husbandry needs and public presentations - Cleaning habitats, enclosure furniture, and toys - Documenting animal behavior and updating animal records - Assisting with scheduling for programs and summer camps - Collaborating with the ED to manage our intern and volunteer program
Full time 40 hours, 5 days per week Salary $40,000-$42,000 DOE 1 week paid vacation
Job Requirements: Able to lift 50lbs Able to stand and perform light/medium physical activities for 8 hour shifts Able to work with and around animal species that create above average amounts of dust/dander Able to work in all weather conditions Able to multitask in a sometimes fast paced work environment Able to drive a company vehicle for several hours to and from off-site locations Bonus: Previous animal training experience Previous experience with wild and/or exotic animals Proficient in knowledge of Operant Conditioning Enthusiasm for the work our organization does!
