Being an Intern for Animal Wonders gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the real world of captive exotic animal care. You will learn how to care for over 40 different species of animals in a hands-on environment. This is an excellent way to gain experience in the animal field. We have two summer positions available: 1. Wildlife Educator Internship 2. Animal Behavior Internship
All of our summer internship positions are based on a mutually beneficial relationship. In return for a season of dedication to the needs of the animals and enthusiasm for learning, our team will share our knowledge and passion with our interns as well as amazing one-on-one time with the animal ambassadors.
Wildlife Educator Internship This position is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the public outreach and education portion of our organization's mission. With plenty of public programs during the warm summer months, you'll get to shadow our wildlife educators and even delve into speaking to audiences yourself. Learning how to speak to the public is essential whether you are a wildlife educator, zookeeper, or veterinarian. Communicating information about animals to the public is a lesson best learned by preparation, practice, and repetition. You will receive opportunities to handle the animal ambassadors as you gain more knowledge and experience over the course of the internship. 10-15 hours/week - Schedule is flexible Unpaid position June 1st - August 20th, 2023
Animal Behavior Internship This position is all about learning and getting practical experience with behavioral and husbandry training. You will be using operant conditioning focusing on positive reinforcement and choice bases training methods with the goal of keeping a wide variety of animals physically and mentally healthy. This position will include one-on-one sessions with our animal trainers and animals. You will have the opportunity to train several animals during your time at Animal Wonders. This position exposes you to the benefits of behavioral training for multiple purposes, including: veterinary medicine, zookeeping, pet ownership, and professional dog/horse training. 10-15 hours/week - Schedule is flexible Unpaid position June 1st - August 20th, 2022
