Being an Intern for Animal Wonders gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the real world of captive exotic animal care. You will learn how to care for over 40 different species of animals in a hands-on environment. Many facilities charge a substantial fee to get the kind of experience you will receive at Animal Wonders. We offer it for free in return for dedication and a passion for learning how to care for and handle captive exotic and non releasable wild animals.
By learning the detailed care it takes to maintain the animals' nutrition, health, and enclosures, you will gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to properly house and provide for exotic animals. Learning behavioral and husbandry training will give you experience in using operant conditioning focusing on positive reinforcement training methods to keep the animals physically and mentally healthy. It will also expose you to the benefits of behavioral training from a veterinary medicine position.
Learning how to speak to the public is essential whether you are a wildlife educator, zookeeper, or veterinarian. Communicating information about animals to the public is a lesson best learned by preparation, practice, and repetition. You will receive these opportunities as you gain more knowledge about the animals.
We work with the University of Montana to offer college credits for your time. Please contact your student advisor and ask about this opportunity.
Thank you for your interest in offering your time, dedication, and passion for learning about captive exotic animal care.
