Ray, the rainbow lorikeet has been with us for almost 3 weeks now. He was very fearful of people when he came to us, but is making huge improvements. He can step onto our hand and likes to drink his nectar from a bowl we hold for him. The best thing that's happened is he's eating all his good healthy foods now. He was very picky and wasn't getting a good diet. But now he's eating lorikeet nectar and bird pellets, a variety of fruits, and yesterday he started eating his veggies! Yay Ray! His feathers are also growing in and we're crossing our fingers that he has broken his habit of plucking. We're very proud of this little bird.

It's getting pretty warm here. The birds are getting some good outside sun time. The lizards have gotten some basking time and Tango is loving hi Tango is having more adventures every day. He loves going for walks on his harness outside. He discovers new things every time, including his favorite grasses and how to maneuver over and around pinecones and bushes. He has made friends with Ambros, the cat, and wants to check out every nook and cranny. He's started eating solids but will continue to be offered the bottle until he weans himself. We are very excited to announce the arrival of two new animal residents. Groucho, the baby hedgehog and Tango, the baby Patagonian cavy. Both came from Roos N More located in Moapa, NV. Valerie and Jay Holt recently opened their animal facility to the public for Zoo Days. They donated Tango and Groucho to Animal Wonders to help spread the knowldege and understanding of animals around the world. We will be posting pictures and a biography of the newbies soon. We're gearing up to make a trip down to Moapa, NV to pick up some incoming animal residents. Stay tuned to see who joins Animal Wonders. Ray the rainbow lorikeet, our newest resident, is doing very well. He is learning quickly that hands bring treats and they are nothing to be afraid of. He is beginning to adjust to his new surroundings. He is also beginning to become curious and explore new food items. This is very exciting for us because he is a very picky eater but needs better nutrition, so it's a very good thing that he is willing to try out new foods. Big smiles around here. Training sessions are keeping me and the animals busy and having fun. Coconut, the cockatoo, is learning how to play fetch with pinecones. He likes to throw them and I catch them and bring them back! Our newest resident, Ray the rainbow lorikeet, is learning how to step onto my hand. He is doing great and is such a quick learner. Pashta, the mustang, is still getting used to being touched on her back and bottom but is making progress every day. We welcome Ray, the rainbow lorikeet, into Animal Wonders. His owner loves him but couldn't keep up with his special care requirements and wanted him to have the best home possible. We will keep everyone updated on how he's doing with the transition. His first adventure is discovering new and different foods in his food bowl. Let's see what he likes best! We just got done with a wonderful presentation with Discovery Preschool. The kids were great! So much fun and enthusiasm! It makes me want to do this everyday. The kids got to explore the rainforest and see what animals they could find by climbing the branches, flying to the treetops, and crawling on the forest floor. Coconut, the cockatoo, had an adventure today. He went to the vet for a check-up and came out with a clean bill of health. He is still getting used to riding in a crate in the car so we try to entertain him as much as possible. If he finds that it's a fun thing to do he will eventually enjoy the ride. As for now, I can't imagine what people think when they see us rocking out to the radio, Augusto driving, me dancing, and Coconut singing and bopping along. I think Coconut likes how it echos inside the car when he screams, hopefully in the future he likes dancing more than screaming :) |
