Percy and Popeye, the Pacific Parrotlets, were introduced and immediately hit it off. They started grooming each other and showing each other their favorite toys that are now combined in the same enclosure. Everyone here at Animal Wonders is happy and the feeling has spread to all the animals. Sometimes it's the little things, like a small friendship, that makes it a beautiful day.

We would like to welcome Percy, the pacific parrotlet! Percy was adopted from a family who loved Percy very much but thought he was missing something in his life. Percy will be introduced to Popeye, the parrotlet currently at Animal Wonders. Popeye recently lost his best friend and brother, he has become quiet and reserved since he's been alone. As soon as Popeye and Percy saw each other they burst out with non-stop chatter. We think this is going to be a close and long relationship. Thank you Percy, and welcome home.
We would like to shout out a THANK YOU to Jodi and Matt for their kind donation to Animal Wonders. We truly appreciate the support, again, thank you Jodi and Matt!
From all the animals at Animal Wonders we would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving! We will be celebrating with the animals and giving thanks for all the people we were able to reach out to with the animal's stories about understanding and wildlife conservation. And we are especially thankful for all the animals we were able to help this year.
Time for more updates.
Shelby's (gopher snake) biopsy's came back from the lab and it was conclusive that she passed away from an infection in her oviduct. It was advanced and most likely began before she arrived at Animal Wonders. Sometimes we wish animals could tell us when they are hurting so we could help them sooner. Tango, the Patagonian cavy, loves his new enclosure more everyday. He's working on several holes and kicks the dirt all they way across the enclosure, watch out! He's still learning how to use his doggy door that goes between the indoor and dirt rooms, but he's learning fast. For now we help him in and out. Popeye, the Pacific Parrotlet, is missing his brother Peewee. Popeye does not enjoy the company of any other species of bird so we are in the process of looking for another parrotlet that is need of a home. For now he's gotten several new toys and lots of interaction from the humans. Hang in there Popeye. Sherman, the hedgehog, is attempting to go into hibernation. This is not a good thing for domesticated hedgehogs because they can't sustain themselves. Everyday we wake him up and give him interaction to make sure he's alert enough to move around and eat his dinner. The change in seasons sometimes triggers this instinct, since wild hedgehogs can hibernate. Sherman is grouchy about it but he will soon learn that it's okay to be awake, he gets treats so it can't be that bad. Quigley, the Brush-tailed Bettong, is growing up fast. He's eating like there's no tomorrow and growing just as fast. He can now easily balance on his back legs and rarely has an uncoordinated moment. He loves to follow our feet and curl up in a blanket or pouch. He's just started to become curious of the world around him, watch out world here he comes! The rest of the animal residents are doing good. The weather has shifted now and we're expecting snow soon. We have everything ready for the cold months ahead and are prepared for any power outages in our neck of the woods. Peewee, the Pacific parrotlet, passed away unexpectedly this morning. He was a joyous little bird full of bright playfulness and quiet sweetness. He will be sorely missed by his brother Popeye and by all of us at Animal Wonders.
Tango, the Patagonian cavy, is skipping and jumping and whistling with delight. Today was his first day in his new indoor/outdoor enclosure. His new outdoor portion has 2 feet of dirt for him to digging and rolling, but is also sheltered from the cold Montana elements. Tango was so obviously happy that you couldn't keep from smiling while watching him jump and dig in the dirt and squeak happily the whole time.
Thank you Julian for adopting Curly Bird! We are so happy for him and we can't wait to see how happy he will be with his new toy, great suggestion. Today Curly got a nice warm bath and looked so clean and refreshed after he dried off. He'll probably spend most of today looking at himself in his mirror deciding just how handsome he is.
It is snowing! All the animals are nice and snug and warm inside. Tango, the Patagonian Cavy's, new dirt-floored enclosure is just a few days away from being complete. Quigley, the Brush-tailed Bettong, is a bundle of joy and hops. Everyone at Animal Wonders is enjoying the peaceful day.
Thank you Montana Natural History Center for giving us the opportunity to bring the animals to your center. We had a great show and the audience enjoyed the animals. Everyone learned about scaly and spiny animals with a surprise animal at the end. Quigley, the brush-tailed bettong, made a guest appearance for the finale. Quigley was an instant star and we can't wait for him to show off at the next presentation.
