Kemosabe's Quill Earrings
Kemosabe, the prehensile tailed porcupine, is covered in over 10,000 quills that he uses to defend himself against predators. Unlike popular myth, porcupines can't shoot their quills. Instead the quills only get stuck in another animal if they're pushed in with force. The quills are hard and very sharp at the end, but they're actually just modified hair. Which means that like hair or fur from any mammal the quills naturally shed out one at a time and then new ones grow in their place. All the quills used in these earrings were collected over the years after they were shed by Kemosabe. The creations were made with love by our staff to celebrate Kemosabe and to share a part of him with you. They are not a representation of indigenous art or culture. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
