Turaco Feather Display
Sunny the red crested turaco has gorgeously stunning plumage! With an iridescent blue tail, to green and red and white shining feathers, turacos sure are unique! Maybe the most fascinating feathers are the bright red flight feathers that are often hidden under tucked wings while they perch. When threatened, the turaco will suddenly flare their wings displaying the red color and spooking a potential predator away. Unlike other birds, turaco feathers don't just have structural coloration, they have true pigment. Meaning, the color can actually be drained from the feathers if washed or left in water.
These feathers are naturally shed when new feathers grow to take their place, ensuring the turacos always have bright and healthy feathers. We collect Sunny's shed feathers and carefully place them in a glass case so you can display this stunning and unusual feather in your own home!
