Volunteering for Animal Wonders helps to us to maintain a healthy environment for the animals in our care. Many factors come into play when caring for captive exotic animals. By providing fresh and nutritious diets the animals thrive in their captive environments. Keeping the food prep area and the Animal Compound clean and in good repair is essential. Creating bedding substrate from recycled materials keeps costs down and is a green alternative to buying other materials. Behavioral Enrichments(BE) keeps the animals' minds and bodies active and engaged. We are very interested in knowing how our programs impact our audiences, studying the long lasting effects by applying research will help us shape our educational programs in the future. Furthering our fundraising efforts allows us to continue and to improve the care of our animals and educational endeavors. You are helping to provide these animals with a healthy and enriched life. Thank you!
Some of our volunteer positions are a one time thing: like participating in a "clean-up day" or "moving day" or building a new enclosure. Some are spontaneous and irregular: like helping hand out fliers or taking tickets at an event. Other volunteer opportunities are more consistent and require a longer period of commitment. These include: handling and socializing the animals, cleaning and feeding the animals, and helping with public presentations.
Long Term Volunteers For those interested in volunteering for more than one project, we consider you a long term volunteer. Our long term volunteers get to know our animals on a deeper level. Learning how to care for exotic animals is a lengthy process and takes time and dedication by both parties. We need to take the time to teach you and you need to dedicate your time to give your passion and resources to the animals and the organization. We ask that if you choose to embark with us in this relationship, you commit to a weekly time for at least one year.
